In a recent Reddit post, a Hogwarts Legacy player shared a new, intriguing discovery in the background detail of the game after playing for 140 hours.

Reddit user jaraxoo discovered a person lying in bed in the open-world game, a rare sight despite the game’s night and day cycle. Most non-player characters in the game roam around the halls and seldom take time to rest in their dorms.

However, in jaraxoo’s screen capture, players can see a young girl in a long dark cardigan and blue robes sleeping in a bed. The post gained over 2.6k upvotes and 222 comments, with many other users speculating on why the non-player character is sleeping instead of interacting with the environment.

“That person looks alarmingly dead-like,” user MarcoxMarcus said.

Another user suggested that the character may be suffering from a Petrified curse, one of the game’s most powerful spells. Meanwhile, user _O_G_ brought up the idea that the character may open up a new side quest. The user speculated that the character could have been accidentally exposed to a Basilisk, a giant serpent bred by dark wizards that could kill or petrify anyone who gazed upon it.

On a more light-hearted note, some commenters noted that the character might just be an off-hand detail with little importance to the gameplay. Users even joked that the character was avoiding class by oversleeping or faking illness.

While it is difficult to say for certain what the character’s purpose is, it is surprising that players can still discover any form of new content in the game almost months after its release. After all, most players should have experienced everything the game has to offer after 60-70 hours of gameplay. Still, the new detail may lead to discoveries that even players with tens of gameplay hours have not seen.

Despite the controversy surrounding the franchise’s author, Hogwarts Legacy gained a vast and devoted fanbase within its opening weeks. Players continue to find things to enjoy about the open-world experience while experimenting with the game’s in-depth combat system.

However, as time goes on, the game has struggled to maintain its player base, with gamers scrambling to find everything and anything new to enjoy in the experience. The game fell from over 500,000 concurrent players in its opening week to just under 100,000 recently. Its open-world experience still lends itself to new findings occasionally, but the game may need more content in the future to continue drawing in players.

New content and expansions

Although the game has seen much success by all sales metrics, some of its content has drawn criticism for being lackluster or derivative. While audience reviews rave about the open world, its repetitive gameplay and mundane combat with few spells have left many players craving more.

According to Steam achievements, only 12 percent of players reach level 40 in Hogwarts Legacy. Furthermore, less than 30 percent of the player base has defeated the single-player game’s final boss. Though it is still early to be sure how much retention the game has gained over the past month, these endgame achievement statistics and the dropping player rate add to the idea that the player base needs fresher, newer content to encourage further play.

Hogwarts Legacy’s developer, Avalanche Software, has said it does not plan to implement any DLC in the future. Players have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, knowing that the game holds potential for further expansion and development. Whether the game’s current popularity changes Avalanche’s decision is yet to be seen.
