French car manufacturer Renault will soon release its latest NFT collection. RACING SHOE5 features 960 pairs of exclusive limited-edition sneakers. Each pair of RACING SHOE5 sneakers will have an NFT featuring 3D artwork.

The NFTs will grant the holders access to an exclusive gathering with Renault’s brand designers at the company’s Research and Development Center and a customizable merchandising collection.

The RACING SHOE5 collection is Renault’s second NFT release on its NFT platform, R3NLT. The company’s first collection is the genR5 NFT drop, released in 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Renault 5.

This new collection includes five unique styles inspired by different R5 turbo models and a sixth design created in collaboration with the R3NLT Web3 community, honoring the R5 Turbo 3E.

The project team said that Renault enthusiasts would have the opportunity to engage with their favorite car brand in a new and innovative way through the RACING SHOE5 collection. The sneakers are crafted from environmentally friendly materials, including LWG-certified leather, and will be priced at €265, including their associated NFTs.

The sneakers feature design elements from the iconic R5 Turbo series, with the rear slope inspired by the car’s chassis, the interior mimicking its upholstery, and the laces resembling seatbelts.

In addition, an NFC chip embedded in the shoe’s tongue will retrieve a second NFT when scanned, serving as a certificate of authenticity and incorporating the shoe’s unique identity card and information on its composition, materials and production background.

The NFT sector has continued to thrive despite the bear market and is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years. According to strategy research and consulting firm TechInsight360, the global NFT industry is expected to grow with a compound annual growth rate of 37.1 percent between 2022 and 2028.

Renault to launch electric version of R5

The genR5 and RACING SHOE5 NFT collections aim to connect Renault’s past, present and future. The new NFT collections will allow enthusiasts to own a piece of Renault’s history and be a part of its future.

The R5 model holds a special place in Renault’s history, and the company is set to honor that legacy with the launch of an electric version of the vehicle in 2024. The new model will draw inspiration from the original R5, a classic car that sold over 8 million units between 1972 and 1996. The electric R5 prototype, recently unveiled by Renault, boasts a sleek design and features multiple references to different versions of the original model.

“The design of the Renault 5 Prototype is based on the R5, a cult model of our heritage. This prototype simply embodies modernity, a vehicle relevant to its time: urban, electric, attractive,” Renault’s design chief Gilles Vidal said.

Renault’s recently launched NFT collections and R3NLT platform align with the company’s 2021 strategic plan — Renaulution. This plan is designed to shift Renault’s focus from volume to value and is divided into three phases: resurrection, renovation, and revolution.

As part of this plan, the French automaker plans to launch 24 vehicles by 2025, ten of which will be fully electric.
